Mission & Values

Everything KapKa does traces back to a single idea: that learning should feel alive.

Our Mission

Together, we build people the world needs.

“Together, we empower passionate learners and creative problem-solvers, rooted in community, to build a more just and sustainable world.”

That's not just language on a wall. It shapes how teachers plan lessons, how students work through conflict, and how families show up for each other.

KapKa was founded in 1989 on three simple tenets: respect for self, respect for others, and respect for nature. Those roots still run deep.

KapKa was founded to stay small. This lets our staff know every student as the unique individual they are — creating space for natural development while still challenging every child to grow. When something's hard, whether it's a math problem or a friendship struggle, we pause and listen first.

The strongest individuals shine within collaborative groups. We live this through our cooperative structure. Students learn that together, they can do powerful things — make a difference in their community, or simply show up for one another.

At KapKa, SEL isn't a lesson — it's woven throughout every day. We take time to listen, reflect, and think ahead. Learning to know yourself and others is one of the greatest tools a person can have.

KapKa is experiential and alive. Project-based learning means students know themselves as writers, scientists, artists, and mathematicians. We believe today's technologies can be amazing tools — but especially at younger ages, the real world teaches best.

We elevate JEDI values and root them in our curriculum, pedagogy, and community. These aren't checkboxes — they require a living, ongoing commitment to growth. And growth is at the core of everything KapKa values.

“We didn't specifically search for a co-op, but have been so happy with KapKa and surprised by how manageable and fun the co-op hours have been.”
— Rachel & Damon, 1st Grade Parents
“When we came to tour KapKa, and talking to alumni kids, I was super impressed with how together, and how aware they were of themselves.”
— Jeff, KapKa parent, class of '24
